Mauli Ola Foundation Rocks the House with the English Beat for Surf Experience Fundraiser.

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – The Mauli Ola Foundation aced its first official fundraiser with a party featuring the English Beat on Saturday, June 14, in Laguna Beach. The sold-out event went off without a hitch, attracting about 200 people. We had many great raffle prizes from sponsors Ambry Genetics, Volcom, Quiksilver, Electric Visuals, IMPAC, BJ’s Restaurant, Laguna Surf and Sport, the Mint and Sue Greenwood Fine Art and the Sageman. A great time was had by all, along with guest speaker Emily Haager who gave everyone an insider’s perspective on the connection between Surfing and Cystic Fibrosis.

The Mauli Ola Foundation will use the proceeds to introduce children with genetic disease to the recreational and health benefits of surfing through its Surf Experience Day’s. It has been suggested that Surfing is an actual treatment for Cystic Fibrosis, and one of the missions of the Mauli Ola Foundation is to get Children and Young Adults with Cystic Fibrosis out in the Ocean surfing. James Dunlop, founder of the Mauli Ola organization, says, “After about ten years of working with Cystic Fibrosis at the Diagnostic Testing level at Ambry Genetics, My brother Charles and I (both Lifelong Surfers) decided to give back, that was the inspiration behind the Mauli Ola Foundation." Mauli Ola means Breath of Life from the Ocean in Hawaiian. It is the dense salt air that is close to the surface after breaking waves that is beneficial to people with CF.
