Dane Reynolds has lived in Southern California his entire life; although not always surrounded by the beach lifestyle. Born in Long Beach, the family moved northeast, and Dane spent a majority of his younger years landlocked two hours inland in Bakersfield. After a summer vacation trip to Ventura at age 8, Dane’s friend introduced him to surfing. Dane’s focused turned to convincing his parents to move coastal. Moving turned out to be an easy sell to his parents who enjoyed the beach community, and within the year Dane moved to and continues to reside with his family in Ventura. Within a couple
years of the move, and a complete dedication by Dane to spend every minute of daylight in the water, he was competing and winning contests at an amateur level.
Watching Dane surf is incredible. He boosts over the lip on nearly every wave, throws insane 360’s and is exciting beyond belief because you never know what he has planned next. Dane blew everyone away in the X Games in 2003 and 2004, taking home the Highest Single Wave Score both years. In 2004, ASL magazine chose Dane to be the recipient of their annual “Next Big Thing Award”. At the 2004 Trestles stop of the World Championship Tour (WCT), Andy Irons dubbed Dane as being “The Best Freesurfer in the World,” after finding himself defeated by the youngster in their man-on-man heat.
The past few years Dane’s focus has been on surfing select contests while concentrating on his first signature film, “First Chapter.” With the release of Dane’s movie he was rewarded by the surfing community with 2006 Surfer Poll awards for Male Best Performance in a Video, as well as the prestigious Surfer Poll Award for Video of the Year.

With his groundbreaking video parts in Quiksilver’s Young Guns and Taylor Steele movies, Dane has climbed into the top 5 on Transworld’s exposure meter for all the hard work he put in over the past couple years. With his popularity being at this all time high world wide, Dane has switched gears to contest mode for the 2008’s WCT series. Keep your eye on Dane Reynolds as he is sure to up the ante as the new kid on the tour.
